Is copying always plagiarism? or is there a gray area.
No, copying is not always plagiarism. If you are remaking a piece of artwork that has already been made, but you use a different medium and change the piece in someway, that is not plagiarism. You are making the artwork your own by changing major or many minor components of the piece, which means its now yours.

List some reasons artists may need to use observation while making artwork.
Artist would need to observe their surroundings of what they are making in order to fully understand the meaning of the piece. This will help make the piece look and feel more realistic to others. Observing will help notice new things and add important things to the artwork. Noticing small detail helps to make the work more realistic
